Episode 136: Pressing the Issue

The end-of-the-season press conference happened this week, giving Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) a few topics to go over.  Is the best idea hoping that players will bounce back next season to fix the offense?  Is the fanbase actually "enthused" as Bill DeWitt thinks?  What are the chances that Matt Carpenter can bounce back next season?  Plenty of discussion before the hot stove gets fired up (or, for the Cardinals, gets dusted off and then covered up for another year).

Episode 135: A Golden Week

With the World Series on (and the Nationals looking like a team of destiny), there's not as much Cardinals news but Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) are here to talk you through what there is.  Besides some World Series talk, the guys get into all the different Cardinal nominees for the Gold Glove, while acknowledging the limitations of the award.  Plus they talk about the 40-man roster and the free agents that are out there.  While away a little bit of your colder week with the first embers of the hot stove!

Episode 134: A Sudden Blast of Winter

It was a NLCS that is never going to be brought up when talking about the storied Cardinal postseason tradition.  A four game sweep with an offense that was colder than the fall temperatures that hit St. Louis to start the series.  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) perform a retrospective on the series, talking about the lack of offense and what could have been.  Hat tips to Jose Martinez and Adam Wainwright and some real talk about the future of Jeff Albert.  Postmortems are never fun but hopefully you'll find some good in this one!

Here's where the fun begins.  Well, fun if you like agonizing stakes, every pitch mattering, and some things possibly being out of your control.  If you are big on ulcers and want to visit your cardiologist, the Cardinals may just have the weekend for you!  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) talk about the upcoming series with the Cardinals clinging to a one game lead and the Brewers apparently impervious to defeat.  What's going to happen?  Why is there that nagging feeling that things are scary even as the Cards are well favored to win the division?  The guys look back at the Arizona series plus the great weekend that happened in Chicago before risking things by discussing the playoff roster a bit.  Buckle up, it's going to be a wild few days!

Episode 131: Winning at Wrigley

The monkey--or is that a billy goat--is off of their backs.  The Cardinals not only won at Wrigley but beat Kyle Hendricks in the process (even if he didn't take the loss because reasons), propelling them that much closer to an October appointment.  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) talk about the highs and lows of Thursday night's game, from Jack Flaherty to Carlos Martinez to Matt Carpenter, and look ahead to what the upcoming week might look like.  (Can the Pirates help at all?  That'd be swell.)  Plus what does the Nationals series tell us about postseason baseball and how much does losing Kolten Wong hurt.  Plenty to listen to as you go through this big weekend series!

Episode 130: Smelling October

It may be Friday the 13th but the 13 Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) are concerned about is the magic number keeping the Cards from the playoffs.  Even with a 3-3 week, St. Louis maintained its four game lead in the division, even with the offense not really doing its best work.  How concerning are the sputtering bats?  Why has Tyler O'Neill not been seen in a week?  What do the Cubs and Brewers have to do to catch the Cards and what is the likelihood they will?  Plus rabbit trails about resigning Marcell Ozuna, if Jack Flaherty would agree to an extension, and the bench work of Matt Carpenter (another 13) and Jose Martinez.  October is coming--even if the weather would disagree--and it's looking like St. Louis will be a part of it!

Episode 129: We're Having Fun Now

Another week of good Cardinal baseball has Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) in a good mood as they survey the NL Central landscape.  A 2.5 game lead on the Cubs will do that and there are plenty of reasons to think that lead can hold even while being a little worried that it won't.  The guys talk about the outstanding starting pitching of Jack Flaherty and what the underlying numbers for Dakota Hudson really mean.  There's brief talk of playoff rosters (even if they acknowledge there's a lot of baseball left) and whether there are causes for concern out of the bullpen.  Another day in first place means it's a good day!

Episode 128: Be Sure To Stretch

After technical difficulties kept the guys off the airwaves (podwaves?) last week, Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) are back to talk about the first place Cardinals.  September is shaping up to be fun, in part because the offense has decided to come out and play.  Why have things been so good over the last two weeks?  The guys also get into the Matt Carpenter situation and whether Adam Wainwright or Marcell Ozuna can, will, and should be a part of the 2020 season.  Plus an opportunity for you to show your support of the show!

Episode 127: Almost One Hit Wonders

The Cardinals are back in first place, thanks to a softer schedule and the fact the Cubs really can't do much away from Wrigley Field.  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) spend some time going over the offense.  Is there anything the team can really do to get things clicking?  Is the firing of the assistant hitting coach going to change anything?  How does the outfield situation need to shake out?  Plus there are some raves for Jack Flaherty and the pitching staff as a whole in what turned out to be a slightly shorter show.
