Dan and Daniel in December! With the winter meetings just days away, the hot stove has heated up, with the biggest news relating to David Price. The Cardinals didn't get him, but they almost did. Should they have? What do they do now? Is there another pitcher they should target or should they double down on the offensive side of things. What about Jason Heyward? How pricey is he going to be and how high can and should the Cardinals go in trying to re-sign him? There's also talk about the roster churn, with the new backup catcher coming and folks like Tony Cruz and Peter Bourjos going. Then the entertainment section, which is basically just Star Wars after a while, but there's nothing wrong with that!
Plenty has happened since the last BDIB and Dan and Daniel tackle it all. They kick it off with the Lance Lynn Tommy John news. Is there blame to be placed in this situation and, if so, where? How do the Cardinals deal with this? There's plenty of pitching in the free agent market. But is the Price right? Alex Reyes won't be a solution, having been suspended, and the Dans tackle that topic as well. Plus Jason Heyward, Mike Matheny's place in the Manager of the Year voting, a rundown of the Cardinal Blogger Awards ballot, Twitter questions and the entertainment section. Let's make the jump to lightspeed!
Baseball is over and the long, cold winter is upon us. Dan and Daniel talk about the success of the Kansas City Royals and how effective they were during the World Series before turning their focus, as always, to the St. Louis Cardinals. They discuss the players dropped from the 40-man as well as the one, Anthony Garcia, added to it. Speaking of a Garcia, Jaime's option pickup is discussed as well as whether the club will give qualifying offers to Jason Heyward and John Lackey, with Daniel explaining why he doesn't think the QO will be that much of a drag on Lackey. Dan brings his entertainment picks to the end of what is likely the shortest BDIB out there!
Rogers Hornsby said that during the winter, he stared out the window and waited for spring. Jonathan Yardley said there were only two seasons, baseball season and The Void. We're in that period of time now and Dan and Daniel are here to try to help you through it. The Cardinal offense would seem to be the focus of the offseason and they talk about how John Mozeliak could address that, whether it was as simple as just resigning Jason Heyward or if it'll need more work than just that. If you don't go out and get another hitter, could you grab a David Price and work on the pitching staff some more? That's a topic for them as well. Plus the entertainment section, where Daniel gets into the action by gushing over the new Star Wars trailer!
As Cardinal fans, we were almost unaware that the season could end this soon. Now, with a rare NLDS loss (and at the hands of the dastardly Cubs, even!) behind them, Dan and Daniel talk about what went wrong in that series, what else could have happened, and whether it would have made any difference anyway. Then they get into the business of the offseason, going over the post-mortem press conference by John Mozeliak and Mike Matheny and talking about the free agents and arbitration-eligibles as we start looking at 2016. As always, they finish up with an entertainment section, with Dan recommending a new movie that just came out. Stay tuned to find out which one!
The postseason is upon us and Dan and Daniel take a look at the upcoming National League Divisional Series, featuring the first ever Cards/Cubs postseason matchup. They go through the rosters, talking about who was on and who was left off, how Mike Matheny might use his tools, and generally trying to be as upbeat about the whole thing as possible. Plus, as always, the entertainment report at the end! (Note: this was recorded before the series began!)
The regular season is over (well, by time you hear this, it probably is) and the Cardinals will be again playing in the NLDS. Dan and Daniel tackle the last bit of the season, talking about the clinching game especially, then delve into a few other things. You know, small stuff like who they'd rather see the Cardinals play out of Chicago or Pittsburgh, what kind of role does Adam Wainwright have in the postseason bullpen, how do you keep Jon Jay off the roster (no, we're serious, if anyone has any ideas please let us know). Lots of props given to Daniel's Patron Pitcher Tyler Lyons and wrapping it up with the entertainment segment you've come to know and love. Give us a listen as you prep for the playoffs!
12! As that magic number finally gets into the neighborhood of single digits, Dan and Daniel talk about the resurgence in Milwaukee and what is going on with the rest of the NL Central race. Tommy Pham makes plenty of noise and there's no way these two talkers can ignore that. Plus there's plenty of injury news, as always, but this time it's about people getting healthy--including perhaps Adam Wainwright. Where does Waino fit in, or does he? Finally, the guys answer Facebook and Twitter questions, including what the NLDS matchups could be as well as what the 2016 outfield would look like. They wrap it up with their entertainment segment, which is not to be missed!
Depending on your point of view, 13 is either lucky or unlucky, as Dan and Daniel break any sort of length records in an epic podcast. You name it, they probably touch on it, from Brandon Moss's recent resurgence to whether Mike Matheny is a good manager. They talk about the NL Central and whether it's just about ready to be called in the Cardinals' favor. Pitching, injuries and a rousing game of who is on or not on the postseason roster. Plus Dan's entertainment recommendations and a #ForceFriday reference!
August is just about done which opens up a whole lot of possibilities for conversation for Dan and Daniel. They discuss the recent surge in scoring by the Cardinals and whether they can keep it up going forward. Lots of players are coming off the DL, but some are staying on, and the guys discuss what that means for the roster in September and beyond. That September roster will expand, so there's talk about who we might see in that overcrowded clubhouse. Plus plenty of talk about the state of the NL Central and Dan's movie pick of the week as well!
