Episode 275: Getting Closer

With Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) still molding young minds and improving his players, Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) sits down with Richard McGill (@RichardMcGill89) of the Playing Catch podcast.  They talk about why Richard and his son Truman started their show and how its going before diving into the Cardinal talk.  The Cardinals made a 40-man roster move this week--was it for Jordan Walker and why make it now?  The rotation has looked sharp in spring, should we expect that going forward?  And how in the world are we expected to know the Opening Day roster?  All that and much more!

Episode 234: The Return

With the return of Albert Pujols to St. Louis, Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) thought it best to bring in his own blast from the past.  Dan Buffa (@buffa82), the original co-host of this show back when it was Best Dans in Baseball, makes his return after six years away.  In a free-wheeling conversation, the guys talk about the return of Albert, the needs of this rotation, what this offense could look like, and Jordan Hicks's spring.  Plus, as a nod to the old show, they wrap it up with some TV and movie talk.  Come party like it's 2016!

Episode 225: A Year End Grab Bag

As 2021 comes to a close, Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) get together one final time to put a bow on the season.  The lockout is still the only real topic in baseball and the guys talk about what they want to see come out of the CBA negotiations and how confident they are the 2022 season will start on time.  They then tackle some of the topics around the Hall of Fame voting before finishing up with a quick look back at the Cardinals season.  Thanks to all that have supported us this season and we wish you a very happy new year!

The baseball world got unnaturally quiet this week as the CBA expired and the owners decided to lock out the players.  Jason Hill (Viva El Birdos, @JPHill_Cards) joins Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) to talk about how things are different and when we might see baseball back to normal.  They also spend time talking about the signing of Steven Matz and what the 2022 Cardinals will look like should they get back on the field.  What is their ceiling?  Is there something the Cardinals can do to improve their squad?  Come while away the baseball hours with a little chatter!

Twelve wins in a row, something the club hasn't done since 1982 which is not entirely outside of Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen's (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) lifetimes but far enough back that the guys aren't going to remember it.  Daniel and Allen talk about what this team has done over the stretch and most notably yesterday in Milwaukee, rallying in a game that seemed destined to end the streak.  Not everything is perfect--the bullpen usage still is a concern--but there's a lot of happy talk and a little bit of looking ahead in this week's show!

Spring training is starting to find its next gear and the Cardinals will soon be getting out the white home jerseys (though maybe not for the first game on Sunday).  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) welcome in Ben Godar (Viva El Birdos, @bengodar) to talk about some of the early returns from spring training.  Can we take anything from Harrison Bader's first live BP?  What do you look for in the early part of spring?  The guys also talk about Jack Flaherty's arbitration hearing and what that may mean going forward, especially with the CBA renewal coming up.

Episode 183: Cardinals Past and Present

The Cardinals have been extremely busy over the last few days and Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) are here to talk about it.  Before they get into that, though, the guys chat with Mike Mitchell (@rickeysredbirds), author of Mr. Rickey's Redbirds.  Mike talks about the process of writing his book, some of the stories about Rickey and baseball in St. Louis, and whether Rickey would have tried to break the color barrier had he stayed in St. Louis instead of moving to Brooklyn.
Then the guys get into all this work that the front office has been doing since the last show.  The trade for Dexter Fowler last night was a bit of a surprise.  What does that mean for the outfield?  Kolten Wong is a Milwaukee Brewer now.  Is it a good thing that we'll see him 18 times a year?  Then more talk about Nolan Arenado and what in the world is happening in Colorado.  Another long one so strap in and enjoy!
